Initial ideas

I have created this Prezi explaining the initial ideas myself and my group have come up with. This Prezi explains how we have gatherd ideas and thought about a concept. When talking about our ideas we had to think about our target audience and how we will target them within our video. We have came to the conclusion that our target audience will be boys between the ages of 15-25. This has come from our question air finding out the typical age of people who listen to the genre of music.

Image Annotation

This is our Image Annotation

Here is what we would like our artist too look like. We have a group said that we would like them too look dark and mysterious. We have came too the conclusion that they will be wearing a mask as its conventional for a Drum+bass music video too cover identity. The black clothes help with the narrative and allow the artist too cover and hide themselves when we are shooting. We have also chosen these strange looking masks too create an airy and scary feel for our video. We believe that this adds too the intense feel of our video.

Lyric Annotation

Within our group we have decided to annotate the lyrics consisted within our song choice. This lyric annotation has helped us to work out which shots will be framed within certain moments. We have thought carefully about what shots we would like for all of our lines. We have thought carefully about what the lyrics are trying to tell us and then put that with the shots we will shoot. For example, 'Heavy artillery' we would have fast tempo shots to show a 'heavy' atmosphere.

Here is a GIF showing our different roles and responsibilities we have within the making of the music video.

Song Choice

I have created this prezzie too explain why we have chosen the song we have chosen (Enie-Obsession). We have come up with these ideas as a group and thought of what different shots we can include and will fit with the genre of music. We had too think carefully about the target audience and what kinds of things they would want too see in the video according too the song choice. This is why it was useful too complete audience research surveys.

Survey example

This is an example of our survey we have created
We have created this survey to discover and find out what kind of things our target audience would like to see within a drum+bass video. We have done this by putting this Survey online within a drum+bass section to allow all drum+bass fans to fill out. This survey has been successful due to understanding what other people like and want to see within a video. We will take all advice on board.

Analysis of music video 2

Chase and Status- End credits

After viewing this video several times I came to the conclusion that it is very successfully conventional. This is due to: the artist appearing in the video; several location and costume changes; lip sync; slow motion; various camera angles and shots and finally quick cuts to the beat of the music.

Within the first 10 seconds of the music video we see the artist appearing in low key lighting falling from the sky in slow motion. Firstly, we can see that the artist is wearing grey; this may be symbolic of 'the end' as the colour grey is washed out and lifeless. The slow motion allows us to focus on what is happening. On the other hand, the falling in slow motion is in time with the music and fits in well.

As the artist starts to sing we clearly see that there is a birds eye view shot of his face. As an audience member we get to see his emotions and the lip syncing begin. As the beat comes in we see various quick cuts and short shot durations taking place which fit in with the beat of the music. As a viewer this is pleasing to watch and captures my eye as more than one thing is being presented. In comparison, we see low key lighting presented throughout this moment in time. This makes the scene feel dark and airy adding to the music mood.

As the artist is singing visual images are being shown which is related to the song. For example, he talks about violence and therefore we see a 'gang' fighting. This is done several times and creates a huge impact on the audience and makes us feel sorry for the artist (the character he is playing). Again in this scene we are presented with low key lighting which creates a dark feel to the music video in relation with the music which is dark and trippy.

During this next verse we have the same artist in the same costume with the same shot above. This is linking the verses together to create a more tidy and finished feel to the video. However, we still see different shots being presented and different set/costume changes for others. This creates something for the viewers to watch which is related. We hear a gun shot during this verse; as it is presented we see a house on fire and the windows smash in the same time of the gun shot. This makes a clear effect on the audience and makes them feel on edge which they can then relate to the music. The quick cuts and short shot durations are still shown which is effective.

Illustration
Here in Ne-yo's video 'Closer' we can clearly see that the lyrics relate to what is being shown to us on screen. The cuts are on beat and the artist is presented throughout the video dancing and lip-syncing.

Amplification
Here in Macklemore's video of 'Thrft shop' we can also see clearly that the cuts are on and also off the beat. This highlights certain features throughout the video. The image we are shown help us to understand the meaning of the song. The artist is also featuring in the video playing the role of the man he is talking about.

Disjuncture
After watching this video I got a clear understanding that the cuts are off the beat of the song most of the time. What we are being shown on screen has nothing to do with the lyrics. For example, bottles being placed in between the singers legs and another singer dressed up as a space man!

Drum & Bass Moodboard

As a group we made this mood board to help target our intended audience and help further to create a more narrow theme and mood for our video. Looking at pictures helped to create a better understanding of the type of video we will be making based on the genre. I do believe that these pictures above helped us to realise that we need to create a piece which includes a wide range of shot angles and props that influence the mood. Such as, graffiti spray, smoke and bikes give off a relaxed mood.
