Experimenting

Today as a group we decided that we wanted to add in some more rebelious behavour shots. We thought about many ideas which we could do and spray painting was one of them. We wanted to get some shots that showed the spray coming out of the pot and onto a wall. We have tested out some shots from diffrent angles.
After testing them out several times we came to the conclusion that the spray painting didn't work as you couldn't see clearly the paint as you sprayed it out. Instead we have decided to use fire and smoke. We got the inspiration for this from this Youtube video.

Editing day 3

Here is a small snip-it of our music video. On day 3 of editing we decided to listen to the music more and cut to the beat. This is because we feel that our music video needs to be cut to the beat very well as its all about the music and the fast pace of it. We decided to make a fast paced cut shot that is edited to the beat well. We have cut the shot up into small pieces to create a flashing effect. As a group we decided to use the pig as it has a high status and is very intimidating. This shot worked out very well and adds an edge to the video. It also stands out from the rest of the shots as its faster and more effective.

Editing day 2

After feeling more comfortable with Adobe Premier as a group we decided to play around with editing techniques as to start layering shots to create an airy effect.
Here we have layered on top 3 different shots to make it into one to look like there are 3 pigs. This shot is very successful as you can clearly see the pig's and creates an unusual effect as its layerd and we haven't used this yet in our video. This editing technique works well and as a group we have decided to use it more than once. This is because it stands out from the rest of the shots and adds an edge to the video.

Editing day 1

Today in class we edited the first part of the video together. We focused on cutting to the beat and working out how to use Adobe Premier. We used the layering method and worked out that the layer on top was shown for the most/ at the top. This helped when editing as we could see what shot was being shown. We had to make sure that when we was editing the shots we used were up to the highest quality. For example, Ollie and Jack decided to take out a shot that I put in as we realized as a group it was out of focus.

Filming day 2

These are some of the shots taken from our shooting time on the 12th November. We have stuck to our story board and tried out a few focus pull shots and gritty/dirty shots to create a dark feel within our video. Our shooting this day went very well as we tried out some camera movements that we had not yet done before. We all thought that as a group the new costume chosen was more successful. Alternatively, we all strongly believe that we are finding it difficult shooting in daylight conditions as we feel it does not give off the right effect. Therefore, when shooting in the future we have decided to try it when it gets a bit darker. Today Ollie had taken key role with the camera and myself and Jack helped direct/perform.

Track Permission Letter

This track permission letter shows that we have covered all of the planning stages and written to the record label company and asked for track permission. Successfully, the company have got back to us AND have asked if the finish product could be sent to them for feedback. Myself and the rest of my group are VERY pleased with this and have decided to take their feedback on board.

Talent Release Form

These talent release forms show that the people participating in our video are happy to be filmed and published. We have filled these out within our group for security purposes. All forms have been signed and dated.

Photo-shoot Plan

This is our photo-shoot plan. We have created this too help ourselves with when it comes too taking pictures of our artist for our CD cover.

Advertisment Design

Here are the designs we have thought of for the advertisements. We have created these too then take ideas from each others and create the final advert design. We had too think carefully about the style of the advertisements to see if they fit in with the genre of the music. Thinking about the target audience also came too mind as we wanted drum+bass fans to be drawn by our advertisements. As drum and bass is a niche audience of boys/men we decided that putting steryotypical boys colors and font would draw our target audience in more than pretty designs and girly colors.

CD Cover Ideas

These are the ideas our group have drawn out for our CD cover for the single. We have all decided too focus our idea based on an eye and mysterious aspects. We will now put all of our ideas into one and come up with a final idea as a group. We need to think carefully about the kind of mood we want too create with our CD cover and try and pursue this throughout. We had too think carefully about our target audience when creating these designs. For instance, we wanted the color scheme and designs too appeal for men/boys as we have already found out from our research that they are the target audience.

Shooting Schedule

This is our shooting schedule. We have decided that keeping too this will help when filming. This is because we have included on the sheet who needs too be at the session and what we need too bring.

1) 'Leake street tunnel'- Here we will film the artist shots of Ollie performing
2) 'Stutton Building'- Here we will film the filler shots of Ollie in the background of me walking around
3) 'Leake street tunnel'- Here we will have shots of the artist performing in the tunnel
4) 'Artist performing'- Here we will have the artist performing filler shots of up close facial features ie- mouth singing.
5) 'Abandon Building'- Here we will have the artist singing and filler shots of the girl walking around the building with the 'follower' following her
6) 'Walking around'- Here we will have the filler shots of myself (the girl) walking round; extreeme close ups of my feet

Animatic

-
This is our Animatic for our storyboard. This Anamatic includes our music and then drawings of shots that we have done which will be in our video. We have put the shots in the right timing of what order they will be in. Using the music has helped too work out the length of the song and then realistically find out the amount of shots we will need. Creating this has helped us too focus on different ideas and get a better idea of what order our shots will be in. This will help when filming as we will be able too plan out each shots we need.

Here is our group holding the Story board we have created. this has allowed us too develop our ideas and get a better understanding of what our shots will look like and where. We have written the timing of the shots and the type of shot. This allows us a more organized approach too filming and shooting.

Location shots

Location 1- Abandoned building 1
We have decided too shoot inside an abandoned building that we have found out about on a website 'Derelict London'. We have chosen too film here as we feel that our music video will be completed with the sense of creepiness with a building included that is torn up and destroyed. We all feel as a group that the building will bring a tense and airy feel too the video due too the low key lighting, muted colours and open space. We have planned too film a majority of the shots in this building.

Location 2- Leake Street tunnel
Filming in this tunnel is going too create a huge impact within our video. The tunnel is full of graffiti and is most of the time empty and dark. This tunnel will give us an airy atmosphere too the video. We also feel that we could get interesting shots from one end of the tunnel too the other as it gets darker and darker as it goes on.

Location 3- Sutton garage park
This location will allow us too film shots of myself being followed by Jack and Ollie. This is due too being able too film round corners ad having long shots of me walking. We will also be able too shoot extreme close up's of my feet walking too show the pace is being picked up. We have all visited this location before and all feel that the pebbled pavement slabs will look creepy and help give the disturbing feel.

Music Video Concept

This video includes the concept fou our music video. When it came too thinking about the concept of our video we created a spider diagram of the ideas our group had. We have included in this video different shot types, locations, costumes, editing techniques and key moments that we are sure too include within our video. Preparing this video will be helpful when we begin too shoot.

Initial ideas

I have created this Prezi explaining the initial ideas myself and my group have come up with. This Prezi explains how we have gatherd ideas and thought about a concept. When talking about our ideas we had to think about our target audience and how we will target them within our video. We have came to the conclusion that our target audience will be boys between the ages of 15-25. This has come from our question air finding out the typical age of people who listen to the genre of music.

Image Annotation

This is our Image Annotation

Here is what we would like our artist too look like. We have a group said that we would like them too look dark and mysterious. We have came too the conclusion that they will be wearing a mask as its conventional for a Drum+bass music video too cover identity. The black clothes help with the narrative and allow the artist too cover and hide themselves when we are shooting. We have also chosen these strange looking masks too create an airy and scary feel for our video. We believe that this adds too the intense feel of our video.

Lyric Annotation

Within our group we have decided to annotate the lyrics consisted within our song choice. This lyric annotation has helped us to work out which shots will be framed within certain moments. We have thought carefully about what shots we would like for all of our lines. We have thought carefully about what the lyrics are trying to tell us and then put that with the shots we will shoot. For example, 'Heavy artillery' we would have fast tempo shots to show a 'heavy' atmosphere.

Here is a GIF showing our different roles and responsibilities we have within the making of the music video.

Song Choice

I have created this prezzie too explain why we have chosen the song we have chosen (Enie-Obsession). We have come up with these ideas as a group and thought of what different shots we can include and will fit with the genre of music. We had too think carefully about the target audience and what kinds of things they would want too see in the video according too the song choice. This is why it was useful too complete audience research surveys.

Survey example

This is an example of our survey we have created
We have created this survey to discover and find out what kind of things our target audience would like to see within a drum+bass video. We have done this by putting this Survey online within a drum+bass section to allow all drum+bass fans to fill out. This survey has been successful due to understanding what other people like and want to see within a video. We will take all advice on board.

Analysis of music video 2

Chase and Status- End credits

After viewing this video several times I came to the conclusion that it is very successfully conventional. This is due to: the artist appearing in the video; several location and costume changes; lip sync; slow motion; various camera angles and shots and finally quick cuts to the beat of the music.

Within the first 10 seconds of the music video we see the artist appearing in low key lighting falling from the sky in slow motion. Firstly, we can see that the artist is wearing grey; this may be symbolic of 'the end' as the colour grey is washed out and lifeless. The slow motion allows us to focus on what is happening. On the other hand, the falling in slow motion is in time with the music and fits in well.

As the artist starts to sing we clearly see that there is a birds eye view shot of his face. As an audience member we get to see his emotions and the lip syncing begin. As the beat comes in we see various quick cuts and short shot durations taking place which fit in with the beat of the music. As a viewer this is pleasing to watch and captures my eye as more than one thing is being presented. In comparison, we see low key lighting presented throughout this moment in time. This makes the scene feel dark and airy adding to the music mood.

As the artist is singing visual images are being shown which is related to the song. For example, he talks about violence and therefore we see a 'gang' fighting. This is done several times and creates a huge impact on the audience and makes us feel sorry for the artist (the character he is playing). Again in this scene we are presented with low key lighting which creates a dark feel to the music video in relation with the music which is dark and trippy.

During this next verse we have the same artist in the same costume with the same shot above. This is linking the verses together to create a more tidy and finished feel to the video. However, we still see different shots being presented and different set/costume changes for others. This creates something for the viewers to watch which is related. We hear a gun shot during this verse; as it is presented we see a house on fire and the windows smash in the same time of the gun shot. This makes a clear effect on the audience and makes them feel on edge which they can then relate to the music. The quick cuts and short shot durations are still shown which is effective.

Illustration
Here in Ne-yo's video 'Closer' we can clearly see that the lyrics relate to what is being shown to us on screen. The cuts are on beat and the artist is presented throughout the video dancing and lip-syncing.

Amplification
Here in Macklemore's video of 'Thrft shop' we can also see clearly that the cuts are on and also off the beat. This highlights certain features throughout the video. The image we are shown help us to understand the meaning of the song. The artist is also featuring in the video playing the role of the man he is talking about.

Disjuncture
After watching this video I got a clear understanding that the cuts are off the beat of the song most of the time. What we are being shown on screen has nothing to do with the lyrics. For example, bottles being placed in between the singers legs and another singer dressed up as a space man!

Drum & Bass Moodboard

As a group we made this mood board to help target our intended audience and help further to create a more narrow theme and mood for our video. Looking at pictures helped to create a better understanding of the type of video we will be making based on the genre. I do believe that these pictures above helped us to realise that we need to create a piece which includes a wide range of shot angles and props that influence the mood. Such as, graffiti spray, smoke and bikes give off a relaxed mood.

Analysis of a Rock video 3

The music video I have chosen to analyse is 'Teenage Dirtbag- Wheatus'. I have chosen this video as I feel it touches upon conventions of a pop/rock music video well due to the 'cheesy' aspects. The most on conventional things to feature in a music video would be: an artist lip sync, the soundtrack played, a narrative, different costume and set changes and the artist to feature in the video. However, all genre's have different conventions. For example, in a pop music video it is conventional to have a basic and clear story narrative which runs throughout the video for example, a love story. It is also conventional to have a performance of sing and dance. On the other hand, in a rock music video it is conventional for the band to appear with their instruments.

Here, we see the band appearing with their instruments and a clear narrative beginning of a love story. The first location we see is outside on a street and then in a school hall. Already there has been two set changes which is very conventional and draws in the audience.
Next, we see during the chorus performance from the rest of the cast in the music video dancing along to the beat of the music. This allows us to see the mood being created and the genre shown. We see the corridor's of the school busy and the main boy in the video being barged. This is conventional for a typical pop music video as there is always a lower status character after something!

Throught the video we see extreme close up's of the artist performing and lip syncing. This is very conventional as it allows us to connect with the singer and focus on what is being shown.

Evaluation of teenagers

Myself and Sterling made sure that when editing it together we used a match on action for cutaways to create a trigger for a fast paced editing scene during the chorus. We used several cutaways in-between the chorus's to allow a structure to it. We have used continuity editing to create a life like approach and also made sure that the performer was featured into our video several times. Although we were pleased with the work we created if we were to produce another video then we would have made quicker cuts and cut to the beat of the music. We would also have used appropriate cut away's depending on the lyrics of the song for example, 'boys and girls'. I would also have added in more transitions from the bad to the chorus to differentiate from the both.
